Customers traveling with Jan Doets America tours in the past year have contributed to the donation of €12.500 for Pacific Wild, a Canadian conservationist organization (https://pacificwild.org/).
CEO Elske Doets presented a symbolic check to her employees at the customer event ‘Doets Delight Weekend’. “This is a thank you, because we couldn’t have donated this amount without you,” the business woman complimented her staff. The company doubled the amount that the customers donated, to €12.500.
Salmon migration
Pacific Wild focuses on protecting the temperate rain forests along the coast of British Colombia, at the Canadian East coast. These rain forests harbor a unique flora and fauna and are the habitat of Black Bear, Grizzly Bear and the very rare white ‘Spirit Bear’. It is the only place in the world where wild salmon still migrate.
Jan Doets is a quintessential Dutch company with some ‘American’ traits. For example the company has an active ‘giving back strategy’, as is customary in the US. Apart from the donation to Pacific Wild, the company promotes exercise in children by sponsoring sport clubs. Also, Elske Doets is the founder and driving force behind the Young Lady Business Academy, where young women are prepared for future leadership. In 2018 alone the company gave back €125.000 ($140.300) to society.
‘Balance broad’
Business woman Elske Doets can look back on a successful year. Dutch queen Maxima visited the Young Lady Business Academy and the term Doets introduced to describe a woman who overly advocates work-life balance at the expense of a top career: ‘balanstrutje’, that translates to ‘balance broad’, almost made ‘new word of the year’ in the national Van Dale dictionary contest. Her standpoint that more women deserve a leadership role is gaining traction. “Encouraging as that is, we aren’t there yet. Next year a new class of women will participate in the Young Lady Business Academy,” announces Doets.
